Swimwear in contrasting brights meets pastel sets and mannequins in these Harvey Nichols’ 2012 resort windows. The painterly effect on the background creates a dreamy mood and I especially like the fluorescent lighting effects. The use of colour is the main talking point for me: purples and yellows create great contrast, whereas the pastels are calming and make the brights stand out.

Harvey Nichols seems to have gone back to ice age with their 2011 Christmas windows. At first glance this series of windows reminds me of those of Harrods’ Crystal Christmas windows. The use of cheap materials such as cling film, bubble wrap and polystyrene proves otherwise. The look is very artistic and thrown together with an unfinished feel. With the current economic climate in mind, there is no better time to do a Christmas like this.

These Harrods windows feature buildings not just from the window display capital city London ( I would say that now wouldn’t I?) , but also from New York and Paris just to mention a few. I often get a global feel of Harrods windows. These ones have fashions from different countries in them, but not necessarily from the corresponding cities of the schemes. The windows are a collaboration between Harrods and London agency JustSo.
Some of the shiny building have been used as pedestals for the mannequins.  Gradients of hot colours decorate the backdrops. Different types of mannequins have been used for some of the cities.

The new Harvey Nics scheme is all about the brights. It consists of multi-coloured pipeline structures with various treatments attached to them such as fringing and coloured tubes. The background has been left looking unfinished and rough with visible roller strokes. As a contrast they have opted for 80′s style mannequins with confident poses 80′s fashions to match.
These raised dots remind me of Smarties. Yammy..
I thought I would trow in a menswear image as I usually have so much womenswear. Not a fan of this look on a male mannequins though.

Harrods have based their windows on Alice’s adventures in the Wonderland. The windows have black and white stripe backdrops, and almost all the scenes happen around large tables. They feature all kinds of Alice-props from teacups to alarm clocks, flamingos to bunnies, and Cheshire Cats to Mad Hatters. And a Harrods window would not be complete without a grand chandelier. Some of them have really cool coloured lights that keep changing colour. So some of my snaps might not be the way you saw the windows!
Needless to say that I love the oversize tea-cup! All of the windows are very busy with products and props all over the place, a bit of a chaos like some of the storylines in Alice. Just click on the pictures to study them further.
Teacups and cutlery nyloned to look like they’re falling down the rabbit hole? If you’re looking for a cool tea-cup you can definitely find one in Harrods.

I really like this Mad Hatter window. It is to a very small-scale, so the table and the tea party looks really cool.

Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge
Harvey Nichols is launching a whole new fashion concept on the 25th of January. It will be on the 4th floor and will house accessories and lifestyle products as well as fashion. There you will find emerging designers like Peter Pilotto and established names like Marc by Marc Jacobs. It will definitely be worth checking out as they’re trying a new way of merchandising, and will host exhibitions and collaborate with the designers. (source: harveynichols.com)
The windows remind me of modernism with an eighties twist. It’s really cool the way the message ’4th floor’ is written on different dimensions on the props.

It was snowing last night and to me London looked great. It’s funny how people have digged out their Hunter wellies. Now there are two occasions when they can be used as a fashion statement:Â summer festivals and January snow. Some shops are still in sale, but a few are already showing spring collections. Here are some more examples of the sale windows.
I wonder why they didn’t give themselves five stars? The mannequins are like showgirls, so I understand the styling. Sometimes if you accessorize lingerie too much it can look a little dodgy.. I wonder what colour they’re going for Valentines Day as they’re already doing pink?

Marie Chantal had sale written across four shopping bags, but it really wasn’t that effective because the letters are very small, and the bags kept spinning around so that you wouldn’t even see them that well.
Harrods sale message is always: ‘There is only one sale’. Some of their windows were still in Christmas mode, but all the main ones covered with vinyl. The sale ends the 23rd, so can’t wait to see their first Spring scheme.

Harrods celebrates the 70th anniversary of the classic children’s story The Wizard of OZ. In the story a young girl called Dorothy dreams that she, her dog Toto and her farmhouse get transported to the magical land of OZ. The story follows her journey to The Emerald City to meet The Wizard of OZ who can return her back home. Famous characters such as The Wicked Witch of the West, Tin Man and Scarecrow are all featured in the windows.

All the side windows are a lot simpler with green light curtain and in this one it’s the Tin Man.
This is my last Christmas post. Next thing on the agenda is sale. So I will be seeing red for the next two weeks, then can’t wait for spring windows.

The Harvey Nichols Christmas windows this year are absolutely beautiful. They are inspired by the illustrations of Erte and the grand and decorative art movement Rococo. They take you to a girly fantasy land that plays with scale and traditional ideas of function, and is filled with feathers, glitter, butterflies and showgirls.
I wanted to start with this window because it is simply amazing. The silver mannequin figure (reminds me of sci-fi films) is swinging from a giant crystal chandelier. If you look closely; also candles, cutlery, wine glasses, keys are thrown into the chandelier and the table behind it that is made out of mirror pieces. The mirror pieces are also stuck on to the mannequin, as well as lace- like tattoo and gorgeous jewellery.
