I don’t often do this but I wanted to draw your attention to jewellery and accessory windows as they can often very elaborate or miniature schemes to make such small products stand out. So here are a collection of high-end accessory windows mainly from the Sloane street area in London.

Harvey Nichols Oriental Christmas 2012

Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge , London

Christmas windows around London have now arrived and we will start our journey with  the oriental inspired Harvey Nics. The windows are a continuity of their oriental inspired A/W assortment, and the trend is set to carry on for next spring. Oriental influence has been apparent in fashion and homewares all of autumn, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see other retailers tapping into this trend with their seasonal windows.

A series of Oriental inspired props such as chinese lanterns, oriental flowers and  fans are repeated in these impactful designs. The Harvey Nichols’ pretty and modern attitude is created using these luminescent brightly coloured metallic finishes, mixed with more traditional Oriental materials with splashes of fluorescent colour added on top. Everything is embellished with sparkle, glitter, jewels and Christmas lights.

The windows are framed in these round and hexicon shapes (to name a few) to concentrate on the displays, but I also like the way the frames extend to the exterior of the windows, something Harvey Nichols have done in the past to a very successful effect.

Harvey Nichols’ Icy Christmas

Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge, London

Harvey Nichols seems to have gone back to ice age with their 2011 Christmas windows. At first glance this series of windows reminds me of those of Harrods’ Crystal Christmas windows. The use of cheap materials such as cling film, bubble wrap and polystyrene proves otherwise. The look is very artistic and thrown together with an unfinished feel. With the current economic climate in mind, there is no better time to do a Christmas like this.

A Crystal Christmas at Harrods

Whilst some other retailers might be feeling the economic downturn, Harrods have created the ultimate luxury experience this Christmas with Spina Designs. Swarovski crystals decorate each icy forest scene from glistening chandeliers to gingerbread men. They are beautiful.

Just so you know: some of the colours may be different in reality as white balance is an artistic decision says my Photoshop book!

Winter Festival at John Lewis

John Lewis, Oxford Street, Sloane Square, London

John Lewis welcomes you to attend a winters festival: the scheme is colourful and inspired by Christmas markets. Most of the windows feature colourful disks on the back wall, snow on the ground and colourful stacks of presents. The toy window (below) has a gift unit with present inserts and a revolving skater girl.

Peter Pan stars in Harrods Christmas Windows

Harrods, Knightsbridge, London

J.M. Barrie, the creator of iconic story Peter Pan was born 150 years ago, and Harrods are celebrating this with their 2010 Christmas windows. They call it a vintage Christmas and it is luxurious as always. The windows are absolutely beautiful and feature classic scenes and characters from the story. To go with this years theme they stock a Peter Pan Collection, which includes Christmas decorations and gifts.

In the story Peter Pan refuses to grow up and flies off to Neverland, makes friends with Tinkerbell, the fairy, mermaids and Indians.

Peter is the leader of his gang The Lost Boys. In this adaptation of the story Peter’s outfit is made out of autumn coloured feathers.

Obviously in the story Peter can fly. I love this miniature London. The whole window looks magical.

Wonderfully Wild Christmas at Liberty

Liberty of London, Great Marlborough St, London

It is the time for my first Christmas post. Liberty’s christmas scheme centres around wildlife and celebrates the nature. The mood is magical yet quite dark.  It is calming to see something inspired by nature at the most commercial time in retail. What is interesting is that the scheme is not wintery at all.

The back walls are covered with blue, green and other earthy coloured glitter material. It is not apparent in the photos but colourful fairy lights are placed on the ceiling. Frogs, caterpillars and butterflies run free… I love the mannequins’ styling. Some of the windows happen in a forest and some are water scenes. The merchandise is a mix of fashion, home wares and other gifts.

I love this caterpillar doll. Very clever!

This tree is covered with Liberty fabrics, and the accessories are displayed on little floating shelves.

The Wizard of OZ comes to Harrods

Harrods, Knightsbridge, London

Harrods celebrates the 70th anniversary of the classic children’s story The Wizard of OZ. In the story a young girl called Dorothy dreams that she, her dog Toto and her farmhouse get transported to the magical land of OZ. The story follows her journey to The Emerald City to meet The Wizard of OZ who can return her back home. Famous characters such as The Wicked Witch of the West, Tin Man and Scarecrow are all featured in the windows.

The Wicked Witch.

All the side windows are a lot simpler with green light curtain and in this one it’s the Tin Man.

This is my last Christmas post. Next thing on the agenda is sale. So I will be seeing red for the next two weeks, then can’t wait for spring windows.

Twinkle, Dazzle, Glisten at Harvey Nichols Christmas

Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge, London

The Harvey Nichols Christmas windows this year are absolutely beautiful. They are inspired by the illustrations of Erte and the grand and decorative art movement Rococo. They take you to a  girly fantasy land that plays with scale and traditional ideas of function, and is filled with feathers, glitter, butterflies and showgirls.

I wanted to start with this window because it is simply amazing. The silver mannequin figure (reminds me of sci-fi films) is swinging from a giant crystal chandelier. If you look closely; also candles, cutlery, wine glasses, keys are thrown into the chandelier and the table behind it that is made out of mirror pieces. The mirror pieces are also stuck on to the mannequin, as well as lace- like tattoo and gorgeous jewellery.

Another detail of a mannequin in the same window. Beautiful make-up.

A pink mannequin figure inside a giant gold bauble.

Two black mannequins form a giant butterfly surrounded by more butterflies and cute flowers.

A show girl wearing pink feathers, Swarovski crystal snowflakes hanging of a birdcage. Below a detail that has been cut out of the main picture.

A mannequin and products suspended in a bundle of ribbons.

A mannequin sitting on a moon surrounded by glimmering stars.

Two green mannequins function as a spider in a giant spiders web with lace and flowers all over.

Hope you enjoyed the journey. Let me know what you think. And Merry Christmas to everyone!

Designers at Sloane Street Part 2

Various shops, Sloane Street, London

More Christmas windows from the fashion street in London. Enjoy the beauty while it’s still there. Soon it’s all change to sale windows, somebody please surprise me with something good…

It’s gorgeous red heads at Chanel! I love the cardboard head pieces, that have all sorts of Chanel products on them: sun glasses, perfume bottles, shoes, jewellery, etc.  I have a thing about chairs in windows, especially if they’re piled up high. Pile ‘em up Chanel! The only thing I would fault is the gold fabric. It looks a little tacky, and you see this sort of thing in charity shop windows. If I would have done something else with the floor at least.

Paule Ka and a preview of their spring lines. Maybe that explains then unusual yellow background for Christmas. I like the graphic trees.

Neon lights at Gucci in animal shapes.

More excellent paper art this time at Tiffany’s. It’s in such a small-scale for jewellery and so well done.

Luxury and sumptuous at Dolce and Gabbana. Nothing is too much for them.
